An hour out of the city the roadside sand turns redder, and the moment the driver lets air out of the tyres the fun begins. Dune bashing means the Land Cruiser slides sideways down the ridges while everyone inside screams and laughs. Then comes sandboarding down a dune and a short camel ride. The seven-hour afternoon version ends after dark at a Bedouin-style camp with a barbecue buffet, a fire show and a spinning tanoura dancer.
