This is the Copenhagen from every postcard: 17th- and 18th-century townhouses painted red, ochre and blue along one side, tall-masted wooden ships tied up in the water. On a sunny day the quay edge fills with people sitting with a beer, legs dangling over the canal. Hans Christian Andersen lived at three addresses here (20, 67 and 18), and the plaques are fun to hunt for. Most canal boats leave from here too.
