The real sound of a Chicago night is in its clubs. The Green Mill in Uptown has stood on the same corner since 1907: step in under the green neon and it's a dark wooden bar, red lamps and a small stage frozen somewhere in the 1930s. The booth Al Capone is said to have favoured during Prohibition is still there, and a different band plays every night from 8pm to midnight. For blues, head to Buddy Guy's Legends in the South Loop, opened by the blues great himself, walls hung with guitars and photos, headliners around 9pm.
