A knot of dark volcanic rock sticks out of White Beach's shallows with a small white statue of the Virgin Mary on top. At low tide you can wade out through knee-deep water to the stone steps at its base. A few scrubby trees cling to the cracks, and shells and small fish dot the seabed around it. In the evening the sun drops behind the rock and a queue forms for silhouette shots.
