Step through one arch off the busy street and the noise cuts out; the first courtyard is clad in glazed blue tiles. The complex dates from 1906 and strings eight courtyards together, with galleries, workshops and small shops getting quieter the further in you go. The last yards change mood completely, with painted walls and cafes tucked into old brick. In the evening people drift toward the cinema and theatre inside. A loop takes half an hour, longer if you sit down for a coffee.
