In Beijing, tanghulu's home, it's called bingtanghulu because the sugar sets hard as ice. Qianmen Street has several red-signed tanghulu shops and carts. The traditional version uses tart hawthorn berries; strawberry, grape and mandarin versions are also around. The sugar shell is thick, hard enough to worry your teeth.
