A building with a distinctive bronze-tiled roofline stands beside the broad Chang'an Avenue. The permanent displays trace Beijing's growth as a city through relics, and a separate digital hall shows the old city on screens and projections. Entry is free, but check the official notice for reservation rules before you go. If the Forbidden City crowds wore you out, this is a quieter place to cool off.
