Built in the 1950s with East German know-how as a military factory complex, it filled with artists in the 2000s and became a gallery district. Saw-tooth factory roofs, tall chimneys and rusting pipes frame galleries, design shops and cafés. The big sculptures and murals in the streets alone make for plenty of photos. It sprawls, so an aimless wander easily takes a couple of hours.
