Ten minutes up the avenue from the Sagrada Família the crowds simply stop, and a row of red-brick pavilions with tiled roofs appears. Lluís Domènech i Montaner designed this hospital complex, with underground tunnels linking the wards and gardens running between them. The tile ceilings and stained glass in the entrance hall are the showpiece. It is the same Catalan Modernisme as Gaudí, with room to stand and look.
