It opened as The Oriental in 1876, one of the oldest hotels in Bangkok. The white River Wing stands on the bank beside the Authors' Wing, which keeps its 19th-century look. Step out of the lobby and you're on the river, with the hotel's own boats crossing to the spa and restaurants on the far side. Plenty of guests say the room photos looked dated online, then found the place carried its age like money in the bank.
