If the Acropolis was for the gods, this was where Athenians shopped, sued each other and argued. Today it's mostly scattered foundations under olive trees, which can look a bit bare until you climb the rise on the far side. The Temple of Hephaestus up there still has nearly all its columns and roof, one of the best-preserved Greek temples anywhere. At the other end, the Stoa of Attalos has been rebuilt in full, colonnade and all, and houses a small museum.
