A cluster of green-tiled roofs appears between the towers. The temple was built in the early 1900s for Choijin Lama, the Bogd Khan's brother and state oracle, and survived the socialist purges by becoming a museum. The halls are crowded with fierce protector deities, giant masks from tsam dances and silk thangkas. Stand in the courtyard and look up: weathered eaves in front, the glass wall of Blue Sky Tower flashing behind. That's Ulaanbaatar in one shot.
