This was the Malay and Arab traders' quarter, built around the gold-domed Sultan Mosque. Bussorah Street runs straight at the mosque: palms, low shophouses and the dome framed at the end, one of the most photographed views in the city. One block over, Haji Lane is a narrow alley whose walls are covered end to end in murals, crammed with vintage shops, film-camera stores, cafés and beer bars. Arab Street is for browsing Persian rugs and bolts of fabric.
