Shanghai dim sum and red-braised pork in a red pavilion over the Zigzag Bridge pond

Hours
07:00–20:30 (Amap listing via a Jan 2025 blog); Michelin gives no hours
Budget
¥150–250 per person
Address
115 Yuyuan Old Street, Huangpu, right beside the Zigzag Bridge

The three-storey red pavilion on stilts beside the Zigzag Bridge is Lu Bo Lang. It opened in 1979 and became the place to host foreign guests after Bill Clinton ate here in 1998. A 2019 refit added a wavy silver ceiling, so the room is shinier than the old facade suggests. The usual order is a few Shanghai-style dim sum, such as turnip-shred pastry or osmanthus rice cake, plus a plate of red-braised pork. Grab a window table around sunset and watch the Yu Garden rooflines light up one by one.
