Gold roofs blazing between luxury malls and glass towers — the first sight looks photoshopped. Inside, gilt eaves stack up against the skyscrapers, incense smoke hangs low over the courtyard, and people pitch coins at the tall bronze burner in the middle, trying to land one on its upper tiers; a clean hit earns a ripple of applause. Late afternoon, when the tower windows throw the sun back onto the gold, is the moment for photos.
