Two hills, about 280 metres high, rising from the middle of the city. From the rail at Christmas Tree Point, Market Street runs ruler-straight to the Ferry Building, with the downtown towers and the Bay Bridge to the right and, on a clear day, the Golden Gate's towers far to the left. After sunset you watch the street grid light up block by block, which is why it's a staple of evening tours. The wind up here is much stronger and colder than in town.
