Salzburg itineraries
Old Town in a Day
Start in the Mirabell Gardens looking up at the fortress, cross the river to Mozart's birthplace and the cathedral, ride up to the fortress, and end the day in the monastery beer hall at Mülln. The fullest single day a first-time visitor can fit in.
Two Hills and the Trick Fountains
Day one climbs the Kapuzinerberg on the New Town side to look across at the fortress; day two starts at the museum on the Mönchsberg and ends getting sprayed by the trick fountains at Hellbrunn. Two days that skip the crowded fortress and birthplace and see Salzburg from above instead.
Fortress, Hallstatt, Untersberg
One day for the fortress and Old Town, one for the bus out to Hallstatt's lakeside, and the last for a cable car to an Alpine summit before coming down to the Hellbrunn fountains. Stay beside Mirabellplatz and every day's bus leaves from outside the door.
