Climb from Linzer Gasse or via the Imberg steps off Steingasse

Where the Mönchsberg across the river fills with visitors, this hill belongs to locals walking their dogs. A stone stairway off Linzer Gasse and a few steps later the traffic noise just stops and the forest path begins. From the Hettwer bastion beside the monastery, the fortress and the church spires of the old town sit straight ahead. The Franziskischlössl near the top is about 30 minutes on foot, and the house where Stefan Zweig lived from 1919 is on the same slope.
