The façade is a sober 19th-century neoclassical block, and then you climb the stairs and the mood flips. The tour winds past a tiled central hall under an iron-and-glass roof and ends in the Arab Room, where gold leaf and Moorish-style ornament cover every wall and the ceiling. The building was made for the city's merchants' association, so guides explain how businessmen actually used the room. You move with a tour group, so wandering at your own pace is not an option.
