A red Chinese gate marks the end of a lane off Phang Nga Road, and behind it sits a small shrine more than a century old. The hall is dark and incense smoke hangs up to the ceiling. One step in and the street noise fades. It is a short walk from the Old Town shophouses and easy to miss, so look for the gate.
