Begun as a church for Saint Geneviève, the building became a national mausoleum after the Revolution. Foucault’s pendulum demonstrates Earth’s rotation beneath the vast dome, while the crypt holds Voltaire, Rousseau, Victor Hugo, Marie Curie and Simone Veil. Climb the front steps on the Latin Quarter hill to feel its full scale.
