It opened in 1862 as Le Grand Hôtel, with Empress Eugénie at the inauguration. It shares its square with the Palais Garnier, and the Café de la Paix has been on the ground floor since day one. InterContinental has run it since 1981, and it was refreshed in 2021. Galeries Lafayette is a short walk, so on shopping days you can drop bags and head straight back out.
