A bouillon from 1896, one of the cheap canteens Paris built to feed working people. Push through the revolving door off the lane and you're in a tall hall of mirrors and brass luggage racks, with waiters in black waistcoats scribbling your order on the paper tablecloth. The official menu runs €1–7.50 for starters and €7–13.80 for mains, which in Paris feels like cheating. Most people call the food fine rather than great, so come for the room and the bill and you won't be let down.
