Built before 1869 by the family of late-Qing thinker Zheng Guanying, this mansion covers some 4,000 m² and runs more than 120 m along its lane. Grey-brick Chinese halls mix with Western window frames and ceiling details, so the mood shifts room by room. The government took it over in 2001, restored it to its original look, and opens it for free. Afternoon light through the courtyards and corridors is lovely, and it's far quieter than the old-town core.
