A white driverless tram climbs the hill from the car park for about five minutes, and the hilltop opens up into buildings of cream travertine. European paintings (Van Gogh's Irises among them), sculpture and photography are spread across several pavilions, and from the terraces between them you look at downtown LA one way and the Pacific the other. The Central Garden, a zigzag path down into a maze of flowers, is a work of art in itself. Entry is free with a timed reservation, and the Center closes from 15 March 2027 until spring 2028 for a major renovation.
