Dubrovnik itineraries
Walls, Lokrum, Srđ in a day
Walk the walls the minute they open, cross to Lokrum after lunch, then ride the cable car up for the sunset when the Old Town roofs turn orange. With one day, this order beats both the heat and the crowds.
Two days sleeping inside the walls
Drop your bags at a small hotel inside the walls. Day one is lanes, museums, a swim and the sunset; day two is the walls and forts, then a boat to Cavtat for a lazy afternoon. The point of staying inside: walking an emptied-out Stradun back to bed after nine.
Lapad base, out to Ston
Sleep in Lapad where you can swim straight off the promenade. Day one the Old Town, day two a drive to Ston's walls, oysters and the Trsteno gardens, day three the walls and a sea kayak. Cheaper and quieter than inside the walls, with a promenade sunset thrown in every evening.
