Polished limestone, 300 metres straight through town
- Hours
- Always open

- Free
- Address
- The straight 300 m main street from Pile Gate east to Luža Square (Clock Tower, Sponza Palace)
Centuries of feet have polished the limestone so that after rain it shines like a mirror. The street was rebuilt after the 1667 earthquake, so the houses share the same height, green shutters and arched shopfronts. Onofrio's Fountain (1438) sits at the west end; the Clock Tower and Orlando's Column at the east. By day it's tour-group flags in single file, but around 11pm, with only the street lamps on, you can hear your own footsteps. Climb any side staircase one block and you're among laundry lines and cats.
