Opened in 1894 on the ground floor of the New York Life Insurance building. Gilded columns, chandeliers and painted ceilings make it feel like an opera house the moment you walk in. Writers and journalists once gathered here, and the story goes that a Soviet tank rammed it in 1956. Coffee here costs more than anywhere in town, but you're paying for an hour in this room.
