Station 2 is the island's busiest stretch: tour touts, massage huts and beach pubs crowd the sand in front of D'Mall, and live music runs late. Keep walking south to Station 3 and the buildings drop to two storeys, the shops get simpler and the crowd turns into backpackers on cheaper rooms. Sunsets here feel slower. From roughly February to May, though, green algae washes in and some days the water turns murky.
