Once the backpacker strip, these 400-odd metres are now Bangkok's best-known party street, lined every evening with stalls, pubs and massage shops. From 7 to 8pm it's pad thai, skewers, roti and roadside foot-massage chairs; after 10 the bars crank the music so loud you can barely talk. If that's too much, slip one block over to Soi Rambuttri, with outdoor tables under the trees and live music at a gentler pace. It makes an easy evening after the palace and Wat Pho.
