Under tin roofs, narrow alleys split and split again, packed with clothes, leather bags, celadon bowls, scented candles, potted plants and vintage T-shirts: 27 sections and more than 9,000 stalls. Every few turns a coconut ice-cream or mango juice stand pulls you in for a break. Section numbers are posted on the pillars, so photograph the map at the entrance. From 1pm the heat and crowds peak; walking in at 9 and out before lunch is the easy way.
