This was the home of Ubud's royal family, first built in the 1600s and rebuilt after an earthquake. Red-brick gateways crusted with gilt and carved stone stand one behind another, and the front courtyard is free to wander. It's small, so 20–30 minutes is plenty, and at night the same courtyard hosts Legong and Barong dances. Across the road, Ubud Market is a two-storey warren stacked with sarongs, rattan bags, batik shirts and wood carvings. Nothing has a price tag, and haggling starts at about half the first quote.
